Previously from Pittsburgh, I have spent the last 35 years living in Colorado. My wife Sara and I love motorcycling and have been doing so for over 15 years now. I served in the Navy for 5 years before starting my civilian career. In my free time, I enjoy camping, photography, and traveling around the country on my motorcycle. I have seen many beautiful places and have met some truly wonderful people along the way. Adventure and exploration are in my blood and I cherish every opportunity I get to discover something new.

After several visits to Colorado, my wife Cheryl and I moved here in 2014 from southern NH. Currently, I am "semi" retired from my engineering and teaching (High School Physics) careers and work as a boot fitter for a mountaineering/backcountry ski shop part-time. After 40 years of wanting one, I got my first motorcycle in 2022 and have been enjoying as many roads and dirt miles as I can fit in since then. In addition to motorcycling, my spare time passions include backcountry skiing, playing in the mountains any season, and many miles of trail running.

Moved to Colorado In 1993. Currently, retired living in Westminster, Co. and joined the BMW club a couple of years back after stalking them and finally joining some rides. After owning a number of bikes, I settled on the BMW GS – it suits my ride style, it's comfortable and my BMW friends like it.

Steve Horst
Steve has been a member of several organized motorcycle clubs for over 30 years, and is most excited about this motorcycle club! Of course it makes sense that he is our 2023 membership chair of the BMW Motorcycle Club of Colorado. Please join us! The best MC club of America.
The only qualification of joining us, is that you love motorcycles and enjoy being with others that enjoy this sport too!
If you need to reach Steve, find him at membership@bmwmcc.org!

Eric Malatesta
Eric’s Motorcycle Journey
A Southern Boy moved to Colorado
Eric’s love for motorcycles began in his 20s, though his early riding experience was limited—accumulating only about 1,000 miles over four years. Life took a turn in 2011 when he lost his wife to cancer, prompting him to seek new experiences. That same year, he reignited his passion for riding, purchasing a used 1996 BMW R1100GS and enrolling in a motorcycle riding class. As the only non-Harley rider in the course, he stood out, but it led to an invaluable friendship—one that even inspired his new riding companion to switch to a BMW GS.
In the years that followed, Eric’s love for adventure riding grew. He remarried, welcomed a child at age 50, and relocated to Denver in December 2019. Amid the pandemic, he found community by joining BMWMCC, forging lasting friendships. His riding adventures have taken him across 21 states, covering over 65,000 miles since 2011. He further honed his skills by attending the renowned RawHyde training in 2021.
Eric has conquered some of the most iconic rides in the U.S., including the Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming BDRs. He has also tamed the legendary Tail of the Dragon—twice—on both his ‘96 GS and his 2016 GSA. From scenic backroads to rugged off-road trails, Eric’s journey is a testament to resilience, passion, and the friendships built along the way.

I am pleased to be a part of the team that will be producing the ride book this year, and I look forward to seeing you at some of these events. I have been riding since 2009, and I have had many motorcycles rotate through the garage. I have led numerous rides with my husband Sean acting as sweep, so we know all the hard work that goes into planning a successful ride.
